A Reset, A Return & The Evil Eye - Jewellery with Meaning

A story of slow making, handcrafted symbolic jewellery, and returning the protective talisman of the Evil Eye, inspired by heritage.

There’s been a bit of distance between me and my studio lately.

Since Christmas, I’ve been moving through an autoimmune flare-up that really pulled me out of my usual rhythm… and away from creating handmade jewellery for a while.

I actually ended up in hospital for a week, which slowed everything right down. Not in a gentle, intentional way, but in the kind of way where your body makes the call for you.

And when I finally came back home, and stepped into the studio again, it didn’t feel the same.

So I cleared it all!

Every drawer,

every tool,

every gemstone.

What started as a weekend reset…turned into almost a week of letting go, rearranging, and beginning again.

This wasn't just a studio refresh ... it’s a softer return to my jewellery journey.

It helped me cleanse and see things more clearly.

And for the first time in a long time I had a vision....

The Evil Eye jewellery with meaning

Some pieces come together slowly… over time, in their own way.

This one felt a bit like that.

As I was easing back into the studio, I found myself drawn to the idea of the Evil Eye - a symbol long associated with protection, intention, and energy.

And the more I sat with it, the more it just felt… right.

The timing of it all felt really aligned.

After everything my body had moved through, I think I naturally wanted to come back to something grounding.

Something protective.

Something that felt connected to my roots.

Growing up, my grandmother always believed in the power of the Evil Eye. It was never just a symbol ... it was something meaningful, something worn with intention.

And I think, in a way, I came back to that.

When I first started The Delicate Gypsy, my intention was always to create pieces that felt protective… jewellery that held meaning, that felt different to what I could find elsewhere.

Somewhere along the way, I think I drifted a little from that.

But this piece… feels like a return.

A quiet one.

Not forced. Just something I’ve found my way back to.

As I started sketching and shaping it, I let it unfold slowly. No pressure, no strict plan, just following what felt right in the moment.

These early days back in the studio were gentle.

A bit slower. More intentional… finding my rhythm again.

And somewhere in that process, this piece became more than just something I was making.

It started to feel like a small form of protection.

Something to hold.

Something to wear.

Something that watches over you.
