Persephone: Garnets, Pomegranates and Ancient Symbolism
The Story Behind the Persephone Collection

Inspired by mythology, heritage and handcrafted garnet jewellery.
There is something almost magical about garnet.
Deep red and glowing from within, the gemstones have always reminded me of tiny pomegranate seeds, rich in colour, symbolism and history.
The idea that perhaps, Persephone and Hades may have been one of
the true love stories among the ancient gods. That Persephone took the life and arrangement that had been chosen for her and transformed it into something of her own making. She became more than the maiden of spring, she became Queen of the Underworld, embodying both light and darkness, softness and strength.

The pomegranate also holds a special place in my own heritage and traditions. Each New Year, it is customary to break a pomegranate over the front door as a blessing for good fortune and prosperity in the year ahead. The fruit has long represented renewal, abundance and the changing of seasons.
Much like Persephone herself, garnet carries symbolism of passion, protection, strength and renewal. It has long been regarded as a stone of transformation and new beginnings, making it a fitting companion to this collection. And of course, garnet is also the traditional birthstone of January, marking the start of a new year and all the possibilities it brings.
To capture the warmth and richness I imagined for these pieces, I chose bronze alloy settings to cradle the garnets, allowing their dark beauty to glow against the soft golden tones of the metal.
A small collection inspired by mythology, tradition and the beauty hidden within the darkness.
The Persephone Collection is currently available to view and purchase at Artistique 1881 in Newrybar.
